Martyn Pick - Animation Director

Martyn is an acclaimed director and artist renowned for his innovative integration of live-action and animation. He excels in blending fluid, cinematic storytelling with a range of techniques, including pure live-action, computer, and hand drawn animation. Pick's commercial work is noteworthy, featuring in prominent campaigns such as Budweiser's NBA commercial, an acclaimed promotional short for Film London's 2012 Olympics, and Euros idents for the BBC, as well as the iconic 'Thatcher's Farm' cider campaign that first aired in 2013, and most recently a TVC for Tata Steel in India. His work in advertising has garnered several awards, including a Gold Plaque at the Chicago Film Festival for his TVC for nutrition company ADM, through agency DDB in Chicago, and a Silver Promax award for his BBC Euro idents.

Martyn has made a significant impact in film and animation. He directed the CGI-laden feature film “Ultramarines: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie”, showcasing the facial acting talents of Terence Stamp, Sean Pertwee, and John Hurt. His directorial skills also extend to the live-action realm, with credits like the short film “Green” (Film Four) and the supernatural thriller “Evil Never Dies” and most recently the acclaimed documentary Coup 53 featuring Ralph Fiennes, where Martyn's vision for animation is brilliantly deployed to create an otherworldly feel - an emotional memory - for which there was no archive footage.

Martyn's unique ability to merge cinema and painting has been a driving force throughout his career, a skill honed during his studies in Film and Fine Art at Saint Martin's School of Art in London. This unique approach was brilliantly utilised in the Emmy nominated animated sequences for the feature documentary “Women of 1915".

For television, Martyn was the Head of Story and Voice Director for the Netflix ITV series “Robozuna” and recently co-directed the CGI animated kids' series “Kitti Katz” for Netflix. His versatility as an artist extends to illustration commissioned by Penguin for “Witchcraft” and “Beowulf”.

His work remains a testament to the power of visual storytelling, seamlessly blending commercial and artistic sensibilities.
