Recycle of Life is a corporate social responsibility film for Tata Steel. It shows how Tata Steel recycles steel with an eco-conscious approach, protecting the environment for future generations in harmony with the natural world around it. The film tells its story with folded origami foil paper. It starts life as children's toys and becomes steel for Second World War planes. When the planes perish, their steel is shipped to a futuristic Tata Steel plant and becomes toys again. The journey continues into cars, which transform into robots, which are recycled into bridges, trains and a seed pack. The seeds the children toss into the ground grow into a green environment around the plant, which, like life itself, recycles everything in harmony with its natural habitat.
We joined forces with director Martyn Pick to bring the film to life. Led by Asa Movshovitz, we supervised the two-day green screen shoot. We cut all the shots into an edit, keyed the actors, tracked the camera, and at the same time designed and modelled all the full CGI shots. Once the assets were ready, we used a mix of DaVinci Resolve, Adobe After Effects, Blender, 3ds Max and Unity to create and render the base layer, which was then composited and assembled. Martyn and his 2D team then hand-painted over every frame, for a stunning, hand-painted finish.
