The story

Meet Astra, a little girl who wants to be an astronaut and go to space. We follow her from the age of 3, secretly reading her dad's comic books at night, full of imagination and the ambition to one day become an astronaut. Universe is an on-board musical for P&O Cruises, and Big Tele asked us to create an ambitious title sequence to go with it.

What we did

The project's ambition brought many challenges, all on a tight 6-week deadline: a main character growing from 3 to 14, and seamless cuts to tell her journey of growing up, imagining being in space, exploring the universe and battling aliens. The client brief used AI imagery to convey the mood and feel of the film. After the first meeting we created a detailed storyboard and animatic edits to lock down timing and transitions. Astra's 3 ages were sculpted in ZBrush, retopologised in Blender and textured in Substance Designer. Rigging and animation were done in 3ds Max and Blender, then exported to Unity for final lighting and rendering. Final post and effects were done in Adobe After Effects and DaVinci Resolve.
